The leek is a vegetable, a cultivar of Allium ampeloprasum, the broadleaf wild leek. The edible part of the plant is a bundle of leaf sheaths that is sometimes erroneously called a stem or stalk.



Leeks are an excellent source of vitamin K. They are very good source of manganese, vitamin B6, copperironfolate and vitamin C. Leeks are also a good source of vitamin A (in the form of carotenoidsdietary fibermagnesiumvitamin Ecalcium and omega-3 fatty acids.
